Mieroszewski Centre at the WATCH DOCS festival
The Mieroszewski Centre and the Nova Polshcha portal were again partners of the WATCH DOCS International Film Festival Human Rights in Film.
The 24th edition of the festival kicked off on November 22 and ran until December 1. In Warsaw cinemas – Muranów, Kinoteka, and the newly opened KINOMUZEUM at the Museum of Modern Art – viewers could watch carefully curated documentary films and participated in discussions on topics such as the activities of Russian spies or the perception of the war in Ukraine. For those outside Warsaw, the organizers prepared special online screenings available on the platform mojeekino.pl.
The Mieroszewski Center and Nova Polshcha actively supported the festival by organising selected screenings and meetings with filmmakers. During last year’s edition, we co-hosted screenings of the powerful documentary "20 Days in Mariupol", which won the top prize in the festival's Main Competition. This year, we prepared even more events for you.
- "Flowers of Ukraine" – nn anarchic war-time comedy: 67-year-old Natalia fights for her oasis amidst Kyiv's tower blocks.
- "Intercepted" – the most talked-about Ukrainian documentary of the year. Intercepted conversations between Russian soldiers and their families by Ukrainian intelligence.
- "Zinema: Cinema at War" – a merciless vivisection of the propaganda cinema that fed the Russians' hatred of all who rejected the “Russkiy mir”.
- 28 November (Thursday), 20:30, Kinoteka (sala 3), meeting with the filmmakers after the screening
- 29 November (Friday), 18:15, Kinoteka (sala 2), meeting with the filmmakers after the screening
The organisation of debates and meetings on the war in Ukraine and the issue of war crimes allows art to be combined with reflection on the key challenges of the contemporary world.
