The Mieroszewski Centre organises periodic translation schools that offer a unique opportunity to acquire practical skills in literary translation.

A translator is not just someone who translates a text from one language into another - he or she is a cultural ambassador who plays a key role in building dialogue between societies. At the Mieroszewski Centre, we believe that the work of translators is of great importance for understanding and cooperation between Poland and the countries of Eastern Europe, so our priority is to support the development of young translators.

Translation Schools - developing translation skills

The Mieroszewski Centre organises cyclical Translation Schools ‘Words to Words’, which offer a unique opportunity to acquire practical skills in the field of literary translation. The schools' programme is aimed at beginner and intermediate translators who wish to broaden their competence in translating literary, journalistic and scientific texts.

Why take part?

‘Words to Words’ by the Mieroszewski Centre is an intensive training programme that combines practical workshops with theoretical lectures given by experienced translators and writers. Participants have the chance to work on actual literary and journalistic texts, allowing them to gain experience in working on diverse genres and styles. Each edition of the programme takes into account the contemporary needs of the publishing and translation market, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to take up work as professional translators.

During the workshop, participants have the opportunity to learn about the full cycle of a translator's work: from analysing a literary text and editing one's own translation, through orientation on the publishing market to the legal aspects of translator's work and obtaining funding for as-yet unpublished translations.

Building bridges between cultures

Translators are key intermediaries between nations, providing access to the literature, knowledge and culture of Eastern European countries. Through our translation schools, the Mieroszewski Centre aims to support translators who not only ensure high quality translations, but also act as ambassadors for the cultures they represent. Translation is a tool that helps to understand other societies, their history and heritage, which contributes to building understanding and international cooperation.

If you are a beginner translators or want to deepen your translation skills, the Mieroszewski Centre's translation schools are an excellent opportunity to develop. We offer a unique opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and work on texts that can become relevant. Gain new skills that will help you become a cultural ambassador and build dialogue between Poland and Eastern European countries.
