AREI is the English-language journal of the Mieroszewski Centre, which publishes research on the history, politics and international relations of Central and Eastern Europe.

AREI journal

The AREI journal enables little-known researchers from the Central and Eastern European region to present their work internationally.

The mission of the Mieroszewski Centre is to initiate, support and carry out activities aimed at the peoples of Central and Eastern Europe. This objective is realised, among other things, through the Mieroszewski Centre's publishing activities, which include the publication and dissemination of publications on history, international law and politics. The Centre's publishing offer from 2022 includes the AREI academic journal published in English.

The name AREI perfectly reflects the main ideas behind the existence and role of this publication. AREI is in fact an acronym for the Latin phrase ‘adaequatio rei et intellectus’, which means the correspondence between reality and judgment, i.e. the way it is interpreted. It is the aim of presenting objective historical truth to the readers that is the main objective of the journal.

AREI is a scientific journal published by the Mieroszewski Centre. It has been published exclusively in English since 2022. It is published periodically, twice a year, and is available both electronically, at arei-journal.pl, and in a paper edition.

The main objective guiding its presence on the publishing market is to disseminate the results of innovative research work on the past of Poland and Central and Eastern European countries, as well as to engage in dialogue with Western European and American intellectual circles. Moreover, the activities of the AREI journal contribute to the popularisation of the scientific output of little-known researchers from various countries. To date, the journal has published texts by researchers from Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Russia, Turkey and Finland.

Their publications are often the result of many years of research work based on an in-depth analysis of available sources and their objective, reliable interpretation. The aim of the articles translated into English is both to present the readers with historical truth based on confirmed information and their interest in the history of Central and Eastern Europe.

AREI's scientific journal publishes articles addressing a variety of issues. Readers will find among them both publications on the current political situation and its relation to past events, as well as articles dealing with issues of international relations, diplomacy, and political and legal thought. It also publishes reviews of books and other publications on historical and political topics, which in turn allows readers to get a better idea of the contemporary publishing market.

The articles published in AREI give little-known historians and scholars of international relations from Central and Eastern European countries the opportunity to present their scientific output to a wide audience. English-speaking readers, on the other hand, gain the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Central and Eastern European history, politics and international relations, to better understand the current political situation and to look at the discussed events from a completely new perspective.
