A story that connects the past to the future - what about in 2025?

The Mieroszewski Centre is a place to look at history in a new way, bringing together people, ideas and events in a dynamic dialogue about the past and the future. The coming year will bring many inspiring initiatives and activities.

Tracing the past - research that matters

Every nation has moments in its history that shape its identity. We want to explore and better understand them. In our research, we will go back to the 19th century to discover how Poles and Ukrainians built their intellectual dialogue. We will look at the events in the eastern lands of the Second Polish Republic after 1939, which affected the fate of thousands of people, and the forgotten stories of mass starvation in the USSR. This is not just research - it is an attempt to find answers that will help build a better future.

Books that tell a story

The Mieroszewski Centre's publications in 2025 will be the voice of the past speaking to the present. We will bring back the memory of victims of repressions such as the NKVD's ‘Operation Poland’ and show the diversity of life in Lviv in 1918-1919. We will also tell the story of culture, which plays a key role in preserving national identity. Through translations and international cooperation, our books will reach new audiences.

Education of the future - for translators, teachers and researchers

The Words to Words workshop will become a space where translators can work together on translations, share experiences and inspire each other. The HUMBUG programme will give teachers practical tools to combat misinformation and better prepare their students for the challenges of the modern world. The summer schools, meanwhile, will bring together experts and enthusiasts from Eastern Europe to explore key issues of history and politics. In 2025, we will create a space full of knowledge and inspiration.

A glimpse into the future

Study visits and workshops will bring journalists, researchers and activists together. Together, they will hold discussions, share experiences and seek answers to questions about the future of the region. Such initiatives not only foster collaboration, but also build lasting relationships.

Understanding the present

In 2025, the Mieroszewski Centre will develop the Polihistor 2.0 programme - a space that takes a closer look at major events from a historical and geopolitical perspective, combining expert knowledge with an accessible format of communication. At the same time, surveys of public opinion in the region will be carried out. Analysis of mutual attitudes and changing public sentiment will provide a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities for cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe.

Open Competition - Your project, our mission

The next edition of the Open Competition, created for those who want to act for dialogue between Poles and the nations of Eastern Europe, has already started. It is an opportunity to realise exceptional ideas - from conferences to workshops to exhibitions. Together, we can build bridges between cultures and nations.

A year full of stories

The year 2025 will be a time of stories - those we want to tell and those we will create together with you. The Mieroszewski Centre will become a space where the past, present and future meet, inspiring action.
