Polish POWs in the Polish–Bolshevik War – Research | Mieroszewski Centre

In 2026, we will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth and 50th anniversary of the death of Juliusz Mieroszewski, the patron of the Mieroszewski Centre. 

The project involves a comprehensive analysis of the international and internal context of the functioning of foreign agent status in Russia.

The project involves documenting, as fully and comprehensively as possible, the NKVD's ‘Polish operation’ - one of the greatest genocidal crimes in 20th century Europe.

The aim of the work, which will culminate in the publication of the fundamental ‘Dictionary of Polish-Ukrainian Historical Discourse Concepts’, is to identify and then conceptually analyse the basic concepts understood differently by Polish and Ukrainian historians.

The Mieroszewski Centre initiated research in 2024 into Russia's propaganda methods to justify the need to launch aggressive wars and the crimes that accompany them.

The project aims to analyze Russia's politics of history toward Poland and Ukraine over the past 23 years (1999–2022) using a novel research approach.

On 24 February 2022 at 5am, Russian forces launched an invasion of independent Ukraine, an unprecedented event in post-war European history, which is still ongoing.
