Justifying aggressive wars and war crimes of the Russian state - from Peter I to Vladimir Putin

Status: Ongoing research

Project management: Łukasz Adamski, Kateryna Danylewycz

The Mieroszewski Centre initiated research in 2024 into Russia's propaganda methods to justify the need to launch aggressive wars and the crimes that accompany them.

Above all, we want to analyse the argumentation contained in statements made by the official authorities of the Russian state and the ways in which it was disseminated outside Russia, and to demonstrate what ideological and political arguments were used to defend the Russian state's rationale. The project will involve in-depth studies of sources and literature to identify and classify the types of justifications used by Russia.
