Collected writings of Jerzy Antoni Niezbrzycki (Ryszard Wraga)
The aim of the compiled edition is to attempt to comprehensively document the work of one of the most important, though now forgotten, Polish experts in the analysis of the Soviet Union and communism.
Niezbrzycki, known under the pseudonym Ryszard Wraga, was not only a publicist and analyst, but also an intelligence officer and an active participant in the political life of Polish émigrés after World War II.
The publication will consist of three volumes, which include:
- Volume I: a selection of analytical texts from 1933-1967 on Russia, the USSR and communism;
- Volume II: political journalism and memoirs showing his intelligence activities and the political vision he promoted in exile;
- Volume III: extensive correspondence from 1939-1968 , documenting his expert, intellectual and political activities.
Based on a long-term archival search in Poland, France, Great Britain and the USA, the edition will show Niezbrzycki as a forerunner of the methods of historical analysis of the structures and operational strategies of the Soviet services, with particular emphasis on provocation as a fundamental operational technique. His insights, synthesised assessments and the breadth of the themes raised remain surprisingly up-to-date and are a valuable source for research into the history of Polish political thought, intelligence and analyses of communism in the 20th century.
