Poles and Lithuanians. Red Army Officers in 1922–1944. A Biographical Dictionary
The history of the Poles in the Soviet Union always attracts professional researchers as well as those who are simply passionate about history.
This topic remains under-researched, mainly because of the years-long difficulties in accessing archive materials. The sources currently available to Polish readers offer just a handful of names of Poles who served in the Soviet armed forces, with information being usually incomplete or contradictory.
Meanwhile, Polish and Lithuanian officers, especially high-ranking military officers in Bolshevik Russia and the USSR, played a much more important role than one might infer from simple statistics.
This provided the inspiration to write this dictionary, containing nearly 400 biographies of higher-ranking and senior officers serving in the Red Army in 1922–1941.
