  1. A Ukrainian citizen employed by or cooperating with academic, expert, or analytical institutions based in Ukraine, with a proven research record, currently conducting or planning to conduct scientific research in the thematic scope of the programme.
  2. A Ukrainian citizen without a doctoral degree, who is either pursuing a doctoral programme or has a documented research record, and is conducting or planning to conduct research within the programme’s thematic scope.

The scope of the competition covers the following topics:

  • the mutual influences and interactions between Polish and Ukrainian political thought and historiography
  • the Russian Empire’s struggle against the legacy of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, 1772–1917
  • relations between Poles and Ukrainians in the years 1918–1947. In the shadow of totalitarianism and mass crimes
  • cultural cooperation between Poland and Ukraine after 1991
  • Poland’s contribution to the development of international law

The fellowships are awarded for four months: from 1 August to 30 November 2026.

The total amount is PLN 12,000, paid in four monthly instalments of PLN 3,000 each.

  2. Formal evaluation – verification of completeness and eligibility
  3. Substantive evaluation – carried out by an Expert Committee appointed by the Centre's Director
  4. Results – sent via email; a summary is published online

Applications are assessed in two stages: formal and substantive.

Formal assessment checks whether the application:

  • Was submitted on time by an eligible person
  • Contains all required attachments
  • Fits within the thematic scope of the programme

Substantive evaluation by an independent Expert Committee assesses:

  • Quality and originality of the research project
  • Relevance of the topic to the programme’s objectives
  • Scientific value and publication potential
  • Coherence and feasibility of the research plan
  • Applicant’s academic achievements

Clarity of description and well-justified research goals also matter.

Applications must be submitted via the application generator available at: stypendium.mieroszewski.pl.

  • Detailed research project description (objectives, questions, sources, expected outcomes)
  • At least two recommendations (from institutions or individuals)
  • Academic CV
  • Copies of two publications (or excerpts)
  • Document confirming Ukrainian citizenship

Applications may be submitted in Polish or Ukrainian.

The application deadline is 13 May 2026.

Scholarship decisions are made by the Expert Committee appointed by the Centre’s Director.

Applicants who received the scholarship in the previous edition are not eligible to apply again.
