Supporting Ukrainian researchers who continue their academic activities despite the ongoing war is crucial in maintaining the continuity of research and the long-term development of academia, both in Ukraine and globally. War may disrupt the research process and external support helps academics to continue their work. Supporting research under such conditions emphasises the role of science as a universal language that crosses borders, fostering international partnerships, including Polish-Ukrainian cooperation. It is also an expression of solidarity with researchers in challenging critical situations.
The Mieroszewski Centre runs the ‘Research in Ukraine’ Scholarship Programme, addressed to Ukrainian researchers who are engaged in academic activities in Ukraine in the areas of history, culture, social sciences and other humanities disciplines despite the war. The scholarship supports academic projects on such topics as Polish-Ukrainian relations and the challenges of the Eastern European region. Applicants must submit a detailed research plan, recommendations and documented academic achievements, which are assessed for academic merit.
This initiative of the Mieroszewski Centre is designed not only to develop individual research, but also to strengthen the position of Ukrainian academic institutions in the global academic network. Through this programme, Ukrainian researchers can conduct research that contributes towards a more profound understanding of complex relations in Eastern Europe, as well as shaping new perspectives in the international academic debate.
