Polish and Russian political thought. Relationships, influences, antagonisms
The Centre organized – in the four years of its activities – three major conferences on political thought of Central and Eastern Europe, including Russia.
Conference of 2012 ‘The poor nation, I feel sorry for your plight ... Polish and Russian political thought XIX century. Compounds, influences, antagonisms’ was held in the bicentenary of the birth of Alexander Herzen and one hundred and fifty years after the death of Joachim Lelewel. It was attended by researchers from Polish, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania as well as the United States. In 2014 the work: ‘Myślą i słowem. Polsko-rosyjski dyskurs ideowy XIX w’ was published as an outcome of a conference of 2012.
In 2013 a conference under the title ‘Russia, Europe and the Polish struggle for independence in the nineteenth century’ was organized under the patronage of the President of Poland on the 150th anniversary of the January Uprising – the insurrection which had consequences not only for several generations of Poles, but also for the whole the history of Central and Eastern Europe. The conference was attended by academic historians from many European countries. A special publication with papers presented during the conference is to be published soon.
In 2015 the third conference was organized, devoted to the ‘processes of nation-building in the region of Central and Eastern Europe as reflected in the political thought’ with the participation of Polish historians, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and the UK.
