The Holy See in relation to Russia and Eastern Christianity. From John Paul II to Pope Francis.

This is a collective volume devoted to the broadly understood relations between Catholicism and Orthodoxy in the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as the policy of the Holy See with regard to the Soviet Union, Russia, and other states created on the USSR’s ruins. The collection has its roots in a conference organised in 2017 in Rome by the Centre for Polish-Russian Dialogue and Understanding and the Centre for the Thought of John Paul II.

Both the witnesses to the epoch and researchers take the floor on the pages of this pioneering publication. They represent different generations, different perspectives (including Church hierarchs, historians, priests, diplomats, philosophers and theologians) and, of course, different points of view. Thus, it is a study, although not covering all aspects of the issue presented in the title, yet profound, thoughtful and very diversified.

It is hoped that the volume will contribute to expanding knowledge about relations between Eastern and Western Christianity in the last half-century, thereby supporting dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, as well as between Russia and the Holy See.
