Part 1 War and Truce (September 1939-December 1942)

Part 2 Imponderabilia and Reality (January 1943-June 1945)

This publication is one of the largest collections of sources on the history of Polish-Soviet relations during the World War II, containing materials hitherto unknown to researchers or hardly used historiographically.

They were obtained by the editor of this volume in the course of several years of queries conducted mainly in the Sikorski Institute in London, the Archive of New Files, the Foreign Policy Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and Ukrainian archives.

The published documents provide significant aid in understanding both the position of Polish governments-in-exile towards the Soviets, and of the Kremlin towards the Republic of Poland. They show the circumstances influencing the decision-making process, reflect the atmosphere in which the strategy was determined, as well as the emotional state of politicians and their beliefs or habits. Many of the published materials are also important for understanding the international legal doctrine of the Polish state.

The following have been published as part of the ‘Documents for the History of Polish-Soviet Relations 1918-1945’ series:

The book was prepared as part of the project "Collecting source materials for Polish-Soviet relations" funded under the programme of the Minister of Science and Higher Education called "National Programme for the Development of the Humanities" in the years 2014-2020.
