  • Young scientists (including doctoral students) under 40 years of age, who are citizens of EU countries, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, or Azerbaijan, and who are conducting or planning to conduct scientific research in the field specified in the call for applications
  • Applicants for scholarships may not be permanent residents of Poland or hold Polish citizenship. An exception is made for citizens of Ukraine and Belarus, provided that they are not conducting research at an institution based in Poland

The programme covers key topics related to the history, politics, and contemporary challenges of Central and Eastern Europe. In this year’s edition, participants may carry out their research projects within the following areas:

  1. The Russian Empire's struggle with the legacy of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, 1772-1917
  2. Civil society, protests and political resistance in Belarus and Russia in the context of the activities of diasporas and independent initiatives in Poland
  3. historiographical and political disputes over interpretations of the past in Poland in the 18th-21st centuries
  4. integration with the European Union and Euro-Atlantic integration: opportunities and challenges for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in the light of Polish experience
  5. counteracting Russian propaganda in Central and Eastern Europe based on Poland's experience
  6. Poland's contribution to the development of international law

The scholarship is awarded for a period of four months, from March 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.

The stipend is PLN 8000 paid monthly (ca. 1800 EUR).

  1. submission of applications
  2. formal evaluation – verification of completeness and eligibility
  3. substantive evaluation – carried out by an Expert Committee appointed by the Centre's Director
  4. results – sent via email, a summary is published online

Applications are assessed in two stages: formal and substantive.

Formal assessment checks whether the application:

  • Was submitted on time by an eligible person
  • Contains all required attachments
  • Fits within the thematic scope of the programme

Substantive evaluation by an independent Expert Committee assesses:

  • Quality and originality of the research project
  • Relevance of the topic to the programme’s objectives
  • Scientific value and publication potential
  • Coherence and feasibility of the research plan
  • Applicant’s academic achievements

Clarity of description and well-justified research goals also matter.

  • a detailed description of the research project (aims, questions, sources, research methods, expected results)
  • 2 recommendations (including one from a Polish researcher)
  • academic CV
  • copies of 2 publications (or excerpts)
  • passport scan
  1. purchase of electronic equipment
  2. costs of publishing a scientific publication
  3. activities financed under other scholarship programs run by the Centre

The application deadline is 1 December 2025.

The scholarships are awarded by a Committee of Experts appointed by the Director of the Centre.

A person applying for a scholarship under the 'Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship' program cannot be a person who has been awarded a scholarship under 'Research in Poland' or 'Month in Poland' in 2025.
