Research Scholarship

The Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship is a prestigious programme for young scholars from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and the European Union who wish to develop their research projects in an international academic environment. The programme offers four months of intensive work in Poland – a place where ideas, perspectives and experiences from across the region come together.

Applications are open to individuals affiliated with academic, expert or analytical institutions who have a documented research record and plan to conduct research in Poland. Doctoral students without a PhD degree are also eligible to apply.

The fellowship amount is PLN 8,000 per month. Participants gain not only financial support but also access to archives, libraries and experts, as well as the opportunity to work alongside researchers from across the region.

The programme also includes two special events:

  • the inaugural meeting in Warsaw – a time for connection and inspiration, featuring talks by experts and former fellows,
  • and the closing meeting – a presentation of research results and a space to plan future collaboration.

It is a chance to strengthen one’s academic career, gain international experience and join a community devoted to advancing research on Central and Eastern Europe.

Applications should be submitted through the online application generator available here: stypendium.mieroszewski.pl. More information is available in the FAQ section.

The Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship was created for scholars who strive for excellence in their work, share knowledge and seek to enhance cooperation across Central and Eastern Europe. The programme provides not only financial support but also access to resources that form the foundation of academic research.

For four months, Poland – and Warsaw in particular – becomes a hub of exchange and collaboration for young researchers from various countries. It is a space where scholarship meets dialogue and mutual inspiration.

Participants will also take part in two special shared moments. During the inaugural meeting in Warsaw, fellows get to know the mission of the Centre, take part in integration workshops and meet with experts and former participants of the programme – it’s a time full of inspiration, new ideas and energy for action. The closing meeting, in turn, is an opportunity to present research results, exchange experiences and plan the next steps for future collaboration.

In many countries of Eastern Europe, conducting research in the humanities and social sciences requires courage, determination and passion. Limited funding, restricted access to sources and obstacles to international cooperation often drive young scholars to seek an environment where they can pursue their work in peace.

The programme not only supports individuals but also builds a scientific community – a network of researchers who collaborate, inspire one another and enhance the international visibility of studies on the region.

Participation in the programme offers an opportunity for intellectual growth, a new perspective and tangible research outcomes – publications, collaborations, projects and lasting academic relationships.

The Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship – research that builds community.
