Gabon and Russia. A case study of sanctions circumvention

Despite the severe sanctions imposed on Russia following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Gabon has become an important partner supplying aircraft parts to the country.

In 2023, Ter Assala Parts, a Gabon-registered company, supplied aviation components worth nearly $1.5 billion to Russia. These parts go to both Russian airlines and military aircraft, supporting the Russian air force. This type of cooperation raises questions about the effectiveness of international sanctions.
