Polish-Georgian School of Translation

Polish-Georgian Translation School of the Mieroszewski Centre - Your chance for a career in translation

The Polish-Georgian Translation School envisages a series of practical seminars for budding translators, led by an experienced translator of Georgian literature and external experts.

The project aims to educate a new generation of translators of Georgian literature into Polish, in response to the growing demand for literary translations and the shortage of professionals with relevant qualifications and skills in this area.

‘Words to Words’ is a series of weekend assemblies. In addition, participants have the opportunity for online consultation.

During the school, participants hone their translation skills, work on texts, analyse grammatical and lexical challenges and learn about the translation work cycle and funding opportunities for translation projects.

The Mieroszewski Centre's ‘Words to Words’ translation school focuses on practice - participants have the opportunity to translate texts by prominent Georgian authors and authors.

The lecturers are experienced translators and linguists with excellent knowledge of Polish and Georgian. The school's programme has been carefully tailored to the needs of the participants - from the basics of translation and translation techniques, through analysing and comparing the linguistic structure of Polish and Georgian, recognising cultural subtleties in the source and target texts, to the practical aspects of translator's work and understanding cultural differences in the context of translation. At the Mieroszewski Centre, we place particular emphasis on practical skills.

A community of passionate translators

The Polish-Georgian Translation School is also an opportunity to join an inspiring community of male and female translators. Participants share knowledge and experience together, supporting each other at every stage of learning.

We have been successfully supporting translators for years

We have been organising our own translation programme, Word to Word, continuously since 2017, gaining recognition as an institution that helps young literary translators develop their skills. Our greatest achievement is not only the growing popularity of the workshops, but above all the success of the graduates, who have successfully found their way into the publishing market and the literary world.

The Mieroszewski Centre has so far implemented eight editions of the workshops, six of which have focused on translations of Russian literature. In recent years, in response to market needs, we have also organised the first editions dedicated to the translation of Ukrainian and Georgian literature, addressing the interest in new cultural areas.
