Research in Poland – a scholarship for researchers from around the world
The Mieroszewski Scholarship Programme 'Research in Poland' offers financial support to foreign researchers engaged in academic work related to the history, political situation, culture, and heritage of the nations of Central and Eastern Europe.
Research in these areas constitutes an essential pillar of contemporary knowledge and plays a vital role in shaping cultural identity. Advancing studies in these fields contributes to enriching global perspectives and deepening the understanding of historical and cultural interrelations.
Why this region?
Historical research enables us to look back and understand the roots of the events that shaped the course of history in Central and Eastern Europe. Understanding the past helps us better grasp today’s challenges and conflicts and draw lessons from the experiences of previous generations.
Research on the political landscape of the region allows for in-depth analysis of political, institutional, and social changes that have taken place in Central and Eastern Europe. Such analyses are useful for forecasting future developments and formulating effective strategies for stability and cooperation in the region.
The cultural heritage of Central and Eastern Europe is exceptionally rich and diverse, reflecting centuries of coexistence among different nations and traditions. Cultural research enables the documentation, preservation, and reinterpretation of unique elements of this heritage, supporting intercultural dialogue and a shared understanding of history.
Responding to researchers’ real needs
For many scholars from Central and Eastern Europe and beyond the EU, conducting independent research comes with serious challenges – lack of stable funding, limited access to sources, difficulties in establishing international contacts, and insufficient space for focused academic work.
The 'Research in Poland' programme was designed with these barriers in mind. It offers 3 to 9 months of financial support (6,500 PLN per month) and the opportunity to conduct research in Poland – a country with well-developed academic infrastructure, rich archives and libraries, and a research environment open to international cooperation.
What do you gain?
Participation in the programme offers not only financial support but also:
- freedom to choose your place and mode of work (partner institution, archives, independent research),
- access to academic resources in Poland,
- opportunities to strengthen your professional profile and enrich your academic portfolio,
- connections with fellow researchers from across the region,
- increased international visibility of your research.
The 'Research in Poland' programme undoubtedly helps create a space for dialogue among academic and social communities across Central and Eastern Europe.
