Polish–Ukrainian Historical Congress
The Polish–Ukrainian Historical Congress will take place on 6–8 May 2026. It will be the largest meeting of historians from Poland and Ukraine to date devoted to a shared reflection on the history of relations between the two nations.
The event will bring together approximately 100 researchers from Poland and Ukraine, representing various academic institutions and historiographical traditions. The aim of the Congress is to create a space for substantive scholarly dialogue on interpretations of the past, the methodology of historical research, and the role of history in shaping contemporary relations between the societies of Central and Eastern Europe.
The Congress is organised by the Mieroszewski Centre and the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
The event is dedicated to the memory of Juliusz Mieroszewski, one of the most important Polish émigré intellectuals of the twentieth century, whose reflections on Poland’s relations with the nations of Eastern Europe remain an important point of reference in contemporary public debate.
The programme of the Congress includes panels devoted to key periods and issues in the shared history of Poland and Ukraine—from the Middle Ages to contemporary history. The proceedings of the Congress will be broadcast online.
Call for doctoral students and early-career researchers
Representatives of the younger generation of scholars working on the history of Central and Eastern Europe are also invited to participate in the Polish–Ukrainian Historical Congress.
The aim of their participation is to enable them to take part in scholarly debates and establish academic contacts with historians specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe.
A total of 20 participants will be selected for the Congress: 10 from Poland and 10 from Ukraine.
