Humbug at the Ukraina! film festival
How can you recognize manipulation? How do you tell fact from opinion – and truth from falsehood? During the Humbug fact-checking workshop, participants learnt practical tools used by fact-checkers and discovered how to avoid falling into the traps of disinformation.
The workshop was led by Marta Glanc from the Demagog Association – analyst, journalist, and media educator who verifies information circulating in the public space on a daily basis.
The event is part of the HUMBUG educational programme by the Mieroszewski Centre, organised in cooperation with Demagog. Until now, Humbug workshops were held for teachers across Poland – this time, for the first time, Warsaw residents could join an open edition.
During the workshop, participants will:
- learnt to identify various types of false information – from fake news to media manipulation,
- practiced using fact-checking tools,
- understood how to recognize reliable sources,
- explored strategies for responding to disinformation – both online and offline,
- saw real examples of disinformation campaigns around the war in Ukraine and the refugee crisis.
The workshop was interactive – participants analysed examples, practice recognising manipulation, and learn how to protect themselves and others from false narratives.
