Symon Petlura and Jozef Pilsudski: two leaders, one vision
Could a Pole and a Ukrainian Stand Together Against Moscow?
The documentary addresses the relation between two pivotal figures in Polish and Ukrainian history—Symon Petliura and Józef Piłsudski. Despite their differences in culture, political experiences, and visions for the future, they shared the belief that cooperation between Poland and Ukraine was essential to defend their nations against the Bolsheviks.
Why is this history important today? The alliance between Petliura and Piłsudski demonstrates that, contrary to common perceptions, Polish-Ukrainian relations in the past were not solely antagonistic. It proves that in the face of a common threat, leaders of both nations were able to reach an understanding, despite opposition to such collaboration in both countries.
The story of Piłsudski is presented by:
- Prof. Jan Pisuliński
And from the Ukrainian side, we hear from:
- Dr. Yaroslav Tynchenko, who discusses Symon Petliura.
This was the second episode in a series exploring the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Ukrainian history channel “Realna Istorija.”
