In 2026, as part of the 4th edition of the Open Competition, 364 applications were submitted, with a total requested amount of PLN 21,928,721.80, marking an all-time record in the history of the programme.

As a result of the formal evaluation, 65 applications were rejected due to various procedural and regulatory shortcomings. Ultimately, 299 projects were qualified for the next stage—the substantive evaluation carried out by the Competition Committee.

Following its meetings on 23, 24 and 27 March, and 8 April 2026, the Competition Committee recommended 55 projects for funding, with a total allocation of PLN 1,800,000. All recommended projects were approved by the Director of the Mieroszewski Centre and have been selected for implementation.

The funded projects represent a wide range of activities—from cultural and artistic initiatives, through educational and academic cooperation, to analytical and social projects. These include theatre productions and documentary theatre projects, festivals, literary and film events, as well as workshops and creative labs fostering skills development and international collaboration.

We also support research and educational initiatives, including summer schools, reports and analyses addressing social transformations, media, and labour market developments in the context of war and migration. An important component of this year’s edition are projects dedicated to historical memory, reconciliation processes, and documenting the experiences of individuals affected by political repression.

This year’s edition also features numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation and exchange—such as study visits, programmes for local governments and professional communities, as well as integration-focused projects, including those addressed to persons with disabilities. Some projects focus on supporting creative and intellectual communities operating under restricted conditions, particularly in the context of Belarus, as well as on cooperation with partners from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. The projects also address contemporary Russia, including in the context of the war and imperial legacy.

The funded initiatives respond to key challenges facing the region, including propaganda and disinformation, shifts in professional identity during wartime, and the reinterpretation of cultural heritage. A central objective remains the development of cooperation between Poland and Eastern European countries, as well as building lasting partnerships.

A total of 337 applications were submitted to Open Competition in 2025, requesting a combined amount of 20,244,861.55 PLN — an all-time record in the history of the competition.

Following the formal assessment, due to various regulatory shortcomings, we were forced to reject 72 applications, and one applicant withdrew from the competition. Ultimately, 265 applications were advanced to the next stage: substantive evaluation by the competition committee.

After three days of review on March 25, 26, and 27, 2025, the Competition Committee recommended 52 projects for funding, with a total allocation of 1,849,000 PLN. All recommended projects received approval from the Director of the Mieroszewski Centre and were cleared for implementation.

We supported projects that include educational components as an integral part — initiatives that enhance knowledge about the history, culture, heritage, and current affairs of countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, and Russia. These include cultural and educational projects, intercultural workshops, study visits, research projects, and expert meetings.

We congratulate the beneficiaries and thank all applicants for their strong interest in the competition and high level of participation.

The 2nd Open Competition for the co-financing of projects promoting dialogue and understanding between Poles and the nations of Eastern Europe is behind us. We received as many as 170 applications for a total amount of PLN 9,850,000, which is an absolute record in the history of the competition.

During the formal assessment, 10 applications were rejected - two because they were submitted after the deadline, and eight because they did not meet the formal conditions specified in the regulations. Thus, 160 applications were submitted for evaluation by the Competition Committee.

At a two-day meeting on 23 and 24 April 2024, the Competition Commission recommended 48 projects for co-financing, for a total amount of PLN 1,762,750. All recommended projects were approved by the director of the Mieroszewski Centre and were directed for implementation.

We supported projects whose integral part are educational elements, bringing knowledge about the history, culture, heritage and current events in the life of countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus and Russia. These include cultural and educational projects, intercultural workshops, study visits, research projects and expert meetings.

We have concluded the 1st Open Competition for the co-financing of projects for dialogue and Poles with the nations of Eastern Europe. The competition was announced on 5 October 2023, and despite the short time for the preparation of applications and the short time for the implementation of projects, 70 applications were received.

At its meeting on 30 October, the Competition Committee recommended 44 projects for funding for a total amount of PLN 1 197 288. All recommended projects were approved by the Director of the Mieroszewski Centre and are being implemented.

We supported projects whose integral part is educational, bringing knowledge of the history, culture, heritage and current events in the life of countries such as Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus. These include research projects, intercultural workshops, study visits, performances and expert meetings. 

We have invited schools and universities, foundations, associations, NGOs, local governments, as well as private individuals to participate in the competition.
