The school is intended for beginning translators of literature from Ukrainian into Polish who are before their literary debut or have no more than five publications to their credit.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the full cycle of a translator's work: from analysing a literary text and editing their own translation, through orientation on the publishing market to the legal aspects of translator's work and obtaining funding for translations that have not yet been published.

The workshop includes lectures by specialists in East Slavic philology, editors, translators and publishers. The classes are divided into two parts: a theoretical part and a practical translation workshop. Special emphasis is placed on the translation of Crimean-themed prose.

The workshop will take place at the Mieroszewski Centre in Warsaw in six weekend meetings from January to June 2025. The dates of the meetings are:

  • 18-19 January 2025
  • 15-16 February 2025
  • 15-16 March 2025
  • 12-13 April 2025
  • 10-11 May 2025
  • 07-08 June 2025

To participate in the recruitment, please send to kontakt@mieroszewski.pl by 31 October 2024:

  • three pages of a translation of a previously untranslated literary text of your choice from Ukrainian into Polish, together with the original text;
  • a CV with information about any publications (applies to those with a publishing debut);
  • a motivation letter answering the question: what do you expect from the workshop and why have you chosen this text for translation?

No, participation in the workshop is free of charge. The Mieroszewski Centre covers the costs associated with participation in the workshop, including materials, accommodation and food. Participants cover their own transport costs.

Workshop participants will receive support from experienced translators and the opportunity to publish their translations in an anthology. The workshop is also an opportunity to make contacts in the publishing industry and gain valuable experience.
